Oh boy. Here we go. Another year. And it’s time for those resolutions again. Do they look familiar? Are the same ones as last year?
A New Year and resolutions don’t have to be something to dread…they could something to celebrate. Just like every day is a new day. And every workout is another chance to do something new. Show up, put on your game face, and do your best - whatever that may be on that day. So your resolutions don’t necessarily have to be new ones. There’s absolutely no shame in having some repeats.
Hey – that reminds me of a book. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by don Miguel Ruiz. He’s already written his resolutions. And made them into a book! (that has been translated into 40 languages, I might add…) And he too, has the same resolutions year after year. Check ‘em out:
Be impeccable with your word.
Don’t take anything personally.
Don’t make assumptions.
Always do your best.
According to amazon.com, Ruiz “reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, The Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.” I could tell you more, but then you wouldn’t read the book.
So whether you’re a don Miguel Ruiz fan or a Braveheart fan, FREEDOM can be your resolution! Freedom from what? Well, that’s up to you. These resolutions are often packaged as things we need to stop or change – and in themselves, we see them as a challenge or an obstacle to overcome. But instead, perhaps you have the opportunity to change something to create space for something else that you desire to have in your life. Keep your eye on the prize, people!
And here’s a little secret – that prize? Is you.
So, set your intentions. Post them on the wall at FBD. The chalk is still there. Grab a piece and write something down you want to do for yourself. And then you’ll see it there…staring at you…reminding you… identifying your potential…every time you come to FBD. Showing you the door you can open to greet another part of your best self that is yet to come. All you have to do is walk through it.
Happy New Year! Happy New YOU.
