Oh boy, has it gotten cold, or WHAT? Mornings when even your CAR groans that it’s time to get the day started. February and winter in Indiana can be tough. But check this out – there is only ONE time in the next 30 days that the temperature is supposed to be in the single digits. This Wednesday, Jan 30, the high is supposed to be a balmy -4 degrees, and that’s without the wind chill! Yikes. At FBD though, it’s always warm. And if you’re not warm here, ask yourself if you’re pushing yourself hard enough!
We are going to PUSH THROUGH this month with a new challenge for us all: The Prowler Push. Woot! Woot! I can feel your excitement, really, I can. But turn those groans into grunts and get some power behind that sled! This is a challenge where everyone can succeed!
Get a load of this…. (get it? LOAD???) you get to pick the length that you push! 20 or 40 yards. If you don’t know what’s best for you, ask your trainer.
· Determine your starting weight and time
· Log your weight each time you push the sled on the charts by the stairs
· Increase your weight and maintain or shorten your time
· NOTE: You’re not competing against anyone but yourself
· Celebrate your strength and gains in over 10% of weight pushed over the month
February is also HEART HEALTH MONTH. The CDC states that Heart disease—and the conditions that lead to it—can happen at any age. High rates of obesity and high blood pressure among younger people (ages 35-64) are putting them at risk for heart disease earlier in life. Half of all Americans have at least one of the top three risk factors for heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking). The website from the Indianapolis American Heart Association is chock full of information about how to have a heart healthy lifestyle. Little changes can make a big difference.
