My top 5 reasons to keep working out with your trainer virtually

I received this testimonial this morning from a client that is doing the “virtual workouts” with one of our trainers. With her permission, I have copied it here.

Lisa,

Just checking in...I had my first “virtual workout” with Kara today, and it was GREAT! A few days ago, I texted her a picture of the things I had available at home (random hand weights, an old set of my son’s ankle weight cuff things from high school soccer days, a rubber band with handles), and she designed a workout for me. It was a lot of fun, so here’s a quick update in case other people are wondering if they should continue training during this weird time.

Here are the Top Five reasons (in my opinion) to keep working out with your trainer virtually!

 1. SOCIAL INTERACTION: I’m already tired of not seeing in person the people I usually engage with during the week. Seeing Kara moving around and talking away on my ipad and running through our workout together like always was fun and a lot like being with her.

 2. INDIVIDUALIZATION: Kara’s workout was appropriate for what I need and can do. She knows the little tweaks to make for my weak spots, and she can tell when something is too easy to push me harder or make a small change to kick it up a notch. I would never do that for myself. No online instructor who doesn’t know me can do that.

 3. FEELING NORMAL: Having my regular appointments to “show up” for training 3X a week makes me feel less like I am living in a science fiction novel right now. It reminds me of what things were like a few weeks ago and that we will, in time, be back to normal. That is a shot of encouragement we all need right now. It’s easy to sleep late, eat wrong, and get lazy. There’s a reason I pay for personal training in the first place—I show up for people and appointments. This ensures I keep doing it, and keeping that routine makes me feel more like myself.

4. HEALTH!: The most important investment we can make right now after basic necessities is our health. Feeling strong keeps anxiety away and builds our immunity and positive endorphins. I’ve spent time and money trying to make myself strong, and I know I could lose that ground if I just take a two-month break right now. This keeps that base in place and keeps me moving and stretching and strong so I can resist or fight infection.

 5. ANOTHER SET OF EYES: Working out live several times a week in person with someone who ISN’T living with us is a good way for someone else to be regularly “taking our emotional temperature” and observing our physical condition. It’s good to have that other set of eyes on us when we are socially distanced from all our normal friends and contacts.

And...finally...I really believe we all need to support our local business owners right now who have built the places we all go and love regularly, and who are trying hard to keep it together during unbelievably difficult circumstances. There’s not a lot we can do about COVID-19, but there are creative ways we can continue to try to keep people using the skills and services they can provide us so that we get through this together and rebound when it is over. And it WILL end! I want my favorite places there when it does.

Thanks for encouraging your folks to provide this service. I’m a fan.

Okay, that’s it. Sorry so long, but I told you I’d provide some feedback once I’d tried this, and this morning was my first workout. Added plus: Kara got to finally meet my dog! :)

 Take care!

Jenny
