Mental Wellness during Quarantine

Accountability.  We all benefit from its role in crucial elements of our well-being: work, fitness, relationships, mental health.

That last one is a zinger.  Because mental health affects all the rest.  Where does that priority fall on your list of things to do?  Perhaps it needs to be closer to the top of our lists.  It’s easy to knock through a list of things to do and is so very satisfying to scratch things off once completed.  But how do we feel when the day or week has passed? Are we investing energy in what really matters?  During our time of quarantine, perhaps our regular units of measure of “success” don’t apply.

In our pre-COVID19 lives, it was normal to aspire for longer vacations and time away.  It appears that wish has been granted.  We have loads of time on our hands.  Are we doing with it what really matters?  Maybe it’s not all about getting things accomplished.  Maybe it’s also about learning to BE and to spend time identifying and cultivating what makes us our best selves.

As personal trainers, we want to help you stay active and strong, because we know the tremendous physical and emotional benefits of exercise and how it can promote happy, healthy living today and beyond.  Keep moving and let us know how we can help!  In addition to physical movement, we also know the importance of feeling strong from the inside out, from the heart and soul, so your unique light can shine!

This is not a time to beat yourself up about not getting things doing or drown in lists of things you should get done.  (ugh - that word “should” is NO fun.) Consider taking this time to reflect, without feeling guilt for investing time and energy into yourselves so you can share your brightest light with others.  Maybe our job now is to produce positive energy within ourselves.  What will equip you to be the person you know you can be… or the person you used to be before the unique challenges and social isolation of this quarantine?  What makes you stronger?  More loving?  Spiritual?  More compassionate or gracious?  Patient?  Wiser or humbler?  More __________.  Fill in the blank.

To support you in your efforts, here’s the start of list of resources or tools to help hold you accountable:

This time of QT will pass.  We will all emerge from it with our own stories and experiences and want to be stronger in the end.  What do you want to say you’ve learned or invested in yourself during this time?  Start there.  Fearlessly pursue your best self - and then share your best self with others.

Real. Positive. Change.
