Best. Gift. Ever.

What would be your best gift?  The last couple years has obviously changed the way we live our lives, which in turn, changes what we value.  So this year, what would it be for you?

With online shopping, we have access to almost everything!  Except for those silly microchips needed for the auto industry, but that’s whole different conversation. Your purchasing power is just a few keystrokes and a front porch delivery away, for far more items than we ever dreamed.  And dang, it certainly is convenient!  But, someone needs to smack me upside the head for what I’m about to say, I think I miss the shopping hubbub of years-gone-by.

Wait, what?  You miss the frenetic shopping for the Tickle Me Elmos of each year and the Sunday coupon clipping?  Buying something only to find it on sale for $10 less the next day?  Going to stores all across town to find the last available action figure for your nephew?  Good grief, NO - not that.  I miss the positive energy of the “shopping experience.”  Perusing the stores, absorbing happy energy, and getting creative ideas.  I miss seeing people without worrying about vaccines or political viewpoints.  I miss hugging people without asking first if it’s OK.  Relatable?

This might be the beginning of seeking out gifts that we REALLY need.  Things that you can’t buy online.  Consider these:  Movement.  Strength.  Flexibility.  Community.  A special meal to share it with a neighbor.  A house party for FRamily.  Meditation and internal reflection.  Appreciation.  Time with loved ones.  Being PRESENT with loved ones.  (RE)Discover faith.  Share love.  Help others.  Experience gratefulness.  Empower others.  Become part of a community. Nurture meaningful relationships.

Yeah…. THAT’s what I’m talkin’ about.  Those kinds of gifts don’t even NEED a receipt because there is absolutely no reason for a return.  Are you going to take any of those off the shelf for yourself this season?  Invite people you love to do the same.  Maybe an FBD gift card would be the perfect nudge for them?  FBD wants to always be a community where you can safely strive to be the best version of yourself.

What else would you add to that gift idea list?

Real.  Positive.  Change.
